Welcome to How to Complex! I created this page because sometimes people want to make OCs from the Complex universe, and that's 100% okay! I love seeing them, so this is a little guide to help you out. And if you'd rather not build an OC yourself... feel free to just watch how I create them!

warning: this page is ON PROGRESS! excuse any spelling or image mistake...!

The first thing I do is decide where I want them to be from — which storyline (Grey, Gray, Heart, or Dream)! Depending on which one I choose, I take different routes:

For Grey: I always start by deciding what they are. Pro-revolutionaries tend to have messier designs, often not wearing full uniforms and accessorizing more—just that kind of vibe! Anti-revolutionaries, on the other hand, are more polished, typically wearing the full uniform. Their demeanor can be either strict or shy, depending on whether they are victims of manipulation or the ones doing the manipulating.
Female Anti-revolutionaries wear the full uniform: blazer, skirt, and either pantyhose or long socks, depending on their personality. Their hair is usually tidier than that of female revolutionaries, and they always wear a small ribbon. The color of the tie changes depending on the year they are in (to see how the colors work, check the Grey section under "Character").

Male Anti-revolutionaries also wear a blazer, similar to the women's, with a tie in the corresponding color and dark pants. Like the women, their hair is typically neat, natural, and not dyed.

Female Revolutionaries typically don’t wear the full uniform. For smaller changes, they might skip the blazer, while for bigger changes, they could alter the skirt length (either shorter or longer) or add accessories that don’t come with the standard uniform. Some still wear small ribbons, but depending on their personality, these can also be replaced with ties or larger ribbons.

Male Revolutionaries also don’t wear a blazer, but they do wear the tie. Typically, their pants are longer, and their hair tends to be more colorful or dyed.

Once I have that decided, I choose whether they are important to the story or not. Not all of my OCs are central to the plot—some are just visually appealing and I decide to keep them, while others are essential to the story! Along with that, I also decide on their personality. Sometimes I write it down, other times I do it from memory. Once I have everything in mind, I start sketching and drawing! That’s how I come up with most of my lore...

For GrayHeart: Gray and Heart have similar storylines: a protagonist with a goal, facing a looooooot of obstacles, whether from themselves or others. The only major difference is the school, and of course, the uniform! For GrayHeart, I usually start by coming up with a personality first, and then I begin sketching.

Gray uniform:
Women at Montemei can wear either a more casual or a stricter version of the uniform. The casual look includes only a white shirt and the skirt, with the ribbon depending on the personality—bubbly characters tend to wear bigger ribbons. Their socks can also vary. More serious or calm characters wear the full uniform, including the blazer, white shirt, ribbon, and skirt. Some details may change, like the length of the skirt or the size of the ribbon, as it all depends on the character's personality.

Guys at Montemei keep it simple, always wearing a shirt and the tie that corresponds to their class. More carefree characters typically wear baggier clothes, while closed-off characters prefer tighter-fitting clothes or add a sweater. Similarly, there are more serious men who opt for the full uniform, like in Grey. Overall, they just keep it simple. LOL
For both female and male student council members, the uniform consists of a black jacket with a single button, black pants, and dark shoes. Some wear an armband, though not always—it's typically reserved for more serious events. They wear the standard uniform underneath the jacket. Overall, they keep it simple.

Heart uniform: i still dont get here sorry!

For Dream: not here
